A committee has summoned several suspended headteachers from the Ashanti Region who were alleged to have imposed unapproved charges on students. The Ghana Education Service (GES) took action against these educators after accusations of unauthorized fees, covering expenses such as house dues, books, calculators, admission fees, slip and file printing, and hymn books.
During a recent interview with Citi News, Zakaria Suleman Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), expressed confidence in the cooperation of the headteachers with the committee. He mentioned having discussed the issues with the suspended headteachers and hoped that the committee hearings would shed light on the situation.
Among those under investigation are Mrs. Selina Anane Afoakwa of Kumasi Girls SHS, Mr. Nataniel Asamoah of Asanteman SHS, Mr. Andrews Boateng of Kumasi Senior High Technical School, and Mr. Kwadwo Obeng-Appiah of Manso-Edubia SHS. The remaining three include Mr. Daniel Boamah Duku of Agric Nzema Community SHS, Ms. Gladys Sarfowah of Nkawie Senior High Technical School, and Mr. Ampong Ahmed Omar of Collins SHS.
The GES has launched a thorough inquiry and aims to gather substantial evidence during the committee hearings. The outcomes will significantly impact their positions within the educational institutions, determining their future.
Asserting its commitment, the Ghana Education Service emphasized the need to protect students from unauthorized fees and maintain a conducive learning environment in senior high schools across the Ashanti Region.
