One Delegate Arrested for Taking Photographs of Ballot Paper in NPP’s Tamale Central Constituency Elections

A notable incident unfolded during the New Patriotic Party’s orphan constituency election at the Tamale Central Constituency, as a young delegate was apprehended by the Police for capturing photographs of the ballot paper after casting his vote. The act, considered an electoral offense, led to the delegate’s arrest and the confiscation of both the phone and the ballot paper, which was subsequently invalidated.

Mr. Bismark Nteh, the Tamale Metropolitan Director of the Electoral Commission, addressed the media regarding the occurrence, emphasizing that prior warnings had been issued to delegates against photographing their ballots due to its illegality. Measures were in place to collect phones from delegates within the voting area to prevent any display of ballots post-voting.

The incident revealed a deliberate attempt by the delegate to circumvent regulations by concealing an extra phone to capture the ballot paper, despite the implemented precautions. Additionally, another individual was intercepted while attempting a similar act of photographing the ballot paper after voting.
