6 Reported Dead After a Sprinter Runs into a VIP Bus on the Accra-Kumasi Highway

A tragic accident at Atwedie near Juaso on the Accra-Kumasi highway claimed the lives of six people on Friday, October 11, 2024. The collision involved a sprinter bus, traveling from Togo to Kumasi, and a VIP bus heading from Tamale to Accra.

The sprinter bus, with registration number AS 6313-16, reportedly attempted a wrongful overtaking, crashing into the VIP bus (registration AC 1550-17). One passenger in the VIP bus and five from the sprinter bus died instantly.

Several injured passengers were rushed to the Konongo Government Hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased were sent to the Yawkwei mortuary.

John Boakye, an Assistant Officer at the Asante Akyem Fire Station, confirmed the incident and urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and drive cautiously to prevent further accidents.
