Tackling Unemployment Challenges: The Rise of toddlerWalks
Ghana, known for its vibrant culture and talent, has been grappling with the scourge of unemployment, leaving many dreams unfulfilled.
In the heart of this struggle emerged a beacon of hope – toddlerWalks, a virtual haven birthed from the visionary minds of six bright graduates from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This platform aims to metamorphose the trajectory of careers and alleviate the woes of unemployment plaguing Ghana’s youth.
Maxwell Dan, the trailblazer behind toddlerWalks, during an interview with GhArticles’ Kantaayel Juventus reminisces about the genesis of this revolutionary concept. “In our early years on campus, we wanted to pursue entrepreneurship so I (Maxwell Dan) brought up an idea to create an app where people come to discuss the career goals they want to achieve. However, we decided to conduct a research on campus to see how useful an app like that will be. From the research we realized there are some students who are reading programs they do not like, some students don’t also know their next steps after school and what career to pursue. We also realized there are some students who want to earn money on campus, and that pursuit leads to a lot of problems, an example is a student using his fees for investment and things locking up.
We decided to then develop an application that makes it easy for people to achieve their career goals. How we’ll achieve this goal is by providing mentorship by industry experts who have achieved the career goal students want to pursue. We talked to our lecturer Dr. Emmanuel Ampofo who was teaching us Human Resource Management then and he gave us the chance to introduce the idea to our colleagues during lectures.”
According to Maxwell, despite facing daunting challenges during the application’s development phase, including a last-minute crash, their unwavering resolve led to the impromptu use of a typeform to collect invaluable data during the much-anticipated launch at KNUST.
Remarkably, despite the absence of promotional materials, logo, or a functional app, the enthusiastic response from the audience indicated a resounding success. Subsequently, the team orchestrated webinars graced by luminaries like Okyeame Kwame, Mr. Justice Boakye and Dr.Owusu CEO of Toptier Study Abroad Consult, bolstering their journey towards creating a platform that nurtures career growth and digital skills acquisition.
Among their significant achievements, the establishment of an innovative student club within KNUST’s Business School stands as a testament to their commitment to fostering digital skill acquisition and remote job opportunities, impacting lives by providing a viable source of income.
The ambitious mission and vision of toddlerWalks encompass addressing unemployment challenges in Africa, tailoring personalized learning experiences, nurturing startups, simplifying digital skill acquisition, and disseminating knowledge on burgeoning technologies worldwide.
The team, spearheaded by Maxwell Anyimadu (Maxwell Dan) and supported by co-founders Emile Akuamoah, Juliet Appertey, Abigail Debrah, Silas Apealete Kpegba, and Realeboga Ameliah Sagaestsho from Botswana, envisions toddlerWalks as the foremost global platform revolutionizing career learning and growth.
