The World Bank has pledged its support to help Ghana tackle youth unemployment by backing a new Growth and Jobs Strategy aimed at generating over 500,000 jobs each year for young Ghanaians entering the workforce.
This announcement came after a high-level meeting between the World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, and Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, held at the Bank’s headquarters.
The strategy focuses on job creation, skill development, and fostering inclusive economic growth. Bjerde expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting, “This initiative reflects our shared goal of creating opportunities for young people. We are proud to support Ghana in building a more resilient economy.”
Finance Minister Dr. Forson welcomed the commitment, describing it as a crucial move in tackling the country’s youth unemployment crisis. He highlighted the importance of bold and strategic actions to ensure sustainable and decent jobs for Ghana’s growing youth population.
