The two ongoing court cases involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been adjourned to November 12 and December 4, 2025.
The first case, which concerns allegations that Chairman Wontumi permitted mining operations on his concession at Samreboi without the necessary approval, was adjourned to November 12. The adjournment followed a request from the prosecution to allow time to serve the defense with required disclosures.
In the second case, where he is accused of engaging in unauthorized mining activities within the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve, proceedings were postponed to December 4 due to the presiding judge being on leave.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Department has formally dropped charges against the fourth accused, Edward Akuoko, General Manager of Akonta Mining, a company owned by Chairman Wontumi.
Mr. Akuoko will now serve as a prosecution witness as part of the ongoing legal process.
