A 25-year-old launderer, Ayisha Attoman, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Adentan Circuit Court for stabbing a tailor, Tetteh Adzidoboh, in the neck with a broken bottle. The incident occurred following an altercation between the two at a drinking bar in the Abenwoha area of Adenta.
According to the prosecution, the confrontation began when Adzidoboh, who had been playing with Attoman’s one-and-a-half-year-old son, allegedly beat the child. Enraged by this, Attoman confronted Adzidoboh, leading to a physical fight. Despite efforts by witnesses to separate them, Attoman later resumed the confrontation outside the bar, where she stabbed Adzidoboh in the neck with a broken bottle.
Chief Inspector Anim Darko, leading the prosecution, recounted that Adzidoboh was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Attoman admitted to the offense during interrogation and was charged with causing harm.
Presiding Judge Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam took into account the severity of the injury inflicted but also noted that Attoman was a first-time offender who had pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, she was sentenced based on her own plea.
The court also made provisions for Attoman’s child, ordering that the one-and-a-half-year-old be placed in the care of relatives. Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare has been instructed to provide a detailed report on the challenges concerning the child’s well-being.
