The Western Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred at a mining company site in Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District of the Western Region on Saturday, December 13, 2025. The incident led to the death of a boy and significant damage to the company’s property.

Upon responding to the scene, the police found that two 4×4 SUV vehicles, two tipper trucks, one pickup, and a Toyota Land Cruiser had been burnt or damaged by the town’s youth. Preliminary investigations indicate that a misunderstanding occurred between the youth of Adelekezu and the company’s private security personnel during an attempt to invade the company’s concession. During the altercation, the youth tried to seize a pump-action gun from a security guard. The guard resisted, and in the process, the weapon discharged, striking and killing the boy. He was rushed to the Axim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The death of the boy sparked outrage among the youth, who went on a rampage at the site, setting fire to company property and threatening the workers. The police successfully rescued 11 workers and arrested five suspects, Gyenname Owusu (38 years), Matthew Asamah (24 years), Nana Yaw (15 years), Yaw Opoku (16 years), and Kojo Agyei (21 years), for causing harm and unlawful damage.

The Western Regional Command urges the community to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation to ensure that justice is served.
