The Western North Region has officially commissioned a Passport Application Centre in Sefwi Wiawso to make passport services more accessible to residents.
The facility was inaugurated on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, as part of efforts to decentralise passport processing and improve public service delivery.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister said the new centre would eliminate the need for residents to travel to other regions to apply for passports, reducing both cost and inconvenience. He explained that the initiative forms part of broader reforms being implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance efficiency, transparency and security in passport administration.
He also commended regional authorities for their support and cooperation, which he said were instrumental in ensuring the successful establishment of the centre.
As part of the commissioning activities, five applicants who had completed their passport applications at the Sefwi Wiawso centre were presented with their passports by the Deputy Minister.
The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, described the opening of the centre as a significant milestone for the region, noting that it would greatly improve access to essential government services for residents.
He expressed gratitude to the President and the Minister for Foreign Affairs for approving the facility and urged staff of the centre to uphold professionalism, integrity and transparency in the discharge of their duties.
The ceremony was attended by District Chief Executives, heads of security agencies, the Regional Deputy Director of NADMO, as well as religious and traditional leaders from across the region.
