The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has denied accusations that committee members demand bribes from ministerial nominees prior to their vetting. The allegations, raised by activist Oliver Barker Vormawor, suggested that the committee solicits money from nominees, a claim that Ahiafor strongly rejected.
Speaking before the vetting of Defence Minister-designate Dr. Omane Boamah on January 28, Ahiafor expressed his readiness to submit himself to any investigations, including those by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, in response to the accusations.
“I’m ever ready to submit myself to ORAL. We need to stop certain attitudes. So, therefore, I, Bernard Ahiafor, as the chairman of the committee, want to place it on record that myself and the committee members don’t demand money from any nominees before vetting and approval,” Ahiafor stated.
He also directed the committee clerk to formally invite Vormawor to appear before them and present evidence to substantiate the claims. Ahiafor’s strong statement aims to clear the air on the allegations and maintain the integrity of the vetting process.
