The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cancelled the entire results of 653 candidates who wrote the 2025 WASSCE, following confirmed cases of examination malpractice. Thousands of other candidates have also had their results withheld or cancelled pending further investigations.

In a statement signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, the Council revealed that the Ghana Examinations Committee, at its 40th meeting, approved sanctions after establishing that the affected candidates were caught with mobile phones in examination halls—an offence that leads to automatic cancellation of all results.

Additionally, the results of 6,295 candidates have been cancelled for bringing foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks, and printed sheets, into exam centres.

A further 1,066 candidates remain under investigation for various suspicions of malpractice. This group includes 908 candidates whose subject results have been withheld and 158 whose entire results are on hold.

WAEC also indicated that subject results from 185 schools have been withheld over suspected collusion, with final outcomes expected before the end of December 2025.

The Council noted that 35 individuals, including 19 teachers, were implicated in activities that compromised the integrity of the exams. Nineteen of these individuals have already been convicted, while 16 others are yet to face prosecution.

WAEC expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors, and exam officials for their support throughout the conduct and release of the 2025 WASSCE results.
