The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed that it is awaiting the release of an outstanding GH¢118 million from the Ministry of Education to finalize post-WASSCE activities.
WAEC confirmed that the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates began on August 5 and ended on September 20. The marking of essay and practical components, which started on November 7, concluded on November 29.
However, the council announced in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, on December 9, that a breakdown of scanning equipment has delayed the scanning of objective answer sheets, initially scheduled from November 1 to November 30.
WAEC appealed to the Ministry of Education to release the remaining funds to facilitate repairs and ensure the timely completion of the examination process.
“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GH¢118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” the statement read.
WAEC also urged examination officials and suppliers to remain patient, assuring them that payments would be made once the funds are disbursed.
In response to circulating rumors, WAEC cautioned the public to disregard unofficial dates for the release of results. “The results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved,” the council clarified.
