Vinicius Junior and Dani Carvajal led Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, securing a record 15th UEFA Champions League (UCL) title at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The first half remained goalless as both teams engaged in a tactical battle. However, in the second half, Real Madrid demonstrated why they were the favourites to win the coveted title.
Dortmund struggled to maintain possession early on, with Rodrygo and Vinicius putting pressure on their defense. Despite a promising start, Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi missed a close scoring chance after 20 minutes, thanks to Carvajal’s timely slide.
Moments later, Maatsen and Sabitzer set up a chance for Niclas Füllkrug, but his shot hit the woodwork, denying Dortmund an early lead. Adeyemi had another opportunity in the 28th minute, but Courtois made a crucial save to keep the score level.
Just before halftime, Vinicius attempted to break into the penalty area but was thwarted by Hummels’ precise sliding tackle, leaving the score 0-0 at the break. Rodrygo, expected to shine under Carlo Ancelotti’s guidance, had only 12 touches in the first half.
Real Madrid emerged stronger in the second half. In the 57th minute, Vinicius delivered a flat cross to Rodrygo, but Schlotterbeck’s header redirected the ball to Carvajal, whose powerful volley was deflected by Maatsen.
Füllkrug nearly scored with a powerful header, but Courtois punched it away. In the 74th minute, Carvajal finally broke the deadlock with a header from Toni Kroos’ corner.
Real Madrid continued to press for a second goal. Bellingham missed a key opportunity, his shot deflected at the last moment. Kroos later aimed a free-kick over the wall, but the Dortmund goalkeeper pushed it out for a corner.
In the 83rd minute, Vinicius secured the win with a left-footed goal after evading the Dortmund goalkeeper.
Real Madrid dominated the second half, scoring twice in nine minutes. Despite a challenging first half, their defense, led by Nacho and Rudiger, kept a clean sheet.
The victory at Wembley marks Real Madrid’s 15th UCL title, a historic achievement.
