Renowned Ghanaian educationist and journalist I.K. Gyasi (Ibrahim Kwaku Gyasi) has passed away at the age of 87.
The respected former headmaster of T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS), Kumasi, died after a distinguished career spanning education, journalism, and authorship.
I.K. Gyasi was widely known for his long-running newspaper column, “Bluntly Speaking,” published in The Chronicle for over 20 years. He retired from active journalism in August 2016 at age 80, marking nearly five decades in the media, during which he offered forthright commentary on education and national affairs.
He served as headmaster of AMASS from 1990 to 1998, becoming the first former student of the school to rise to that position. Beyond administration, he was an English language tutor who mentored and shaped the academic lives of generations of students.
An accomplished author of educational books, I.K. Gyasi’s contributions to journalism were formally recognised in 2023, when he was inducted as an honorary member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
The AMASS 1979 Secretariat confirmed his passing, describing it as the loss of a towering figure in Ghana’s education and media landscape.
