The United States government has officially notified Ghana that President Donald Trump has rescinded the 15% tariffs previously imposed on Ghanaian cocoa and selected agricultural products.
According to US diplomats, the tariff reversal took effect on November 13, 2025, following a new Executive Order signed by President Trump.
Products now exempt from the tariff include cocoa, cashew nuts, avocado, banana, mango, orange, lime, plantain, pineapple, guava, coconut, ginger and assorted peppers.
With Ghana exporting an estimated 78,000 metric tons of cocoa beans to the US annually, and with current spot prices at US$5,300 per metric ton, the tariff removal is expected to generate an additional US$60 million (GHS667 million) in revenue for Ghana each year.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described the development as a positive step, noting that the US remains the world’s largest importer of chocolate and cocoa products.
He added that Ghana and the United States will continue to strengthen their longstanding bilateral relations.
