An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail of GH₵200,000 each to two individuals involved in the burglary of Lillian Kumah, the widow of John Kumah, a former Deputy Minister of Finance. The two accused, Adams Sanogo and Rabiu Falilu, appeared before the court on charges related to the theft of valuable items from Kumah’s residence.
Sanogo, a trader, and Falilu, a Senior High School leaver, were both granted bail under strict conditions. The court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, mandated that each of the accused provide two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Additionally, one of the sureties must be a public or civil servant earning a minimum of GH₵3,000 per month, with their pay slips endorsed by their respective departments.
The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2024.
Sanogo is accused of conspiring with an accomplice, Kwame Dunga, who remains at large, to steal money and electronic gadgets from Kumah’s home. The stolen items reportedly include US$50,000, GH₵50,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, an Apple iPad, a Samsung Z Fold phone, a Microsoft laptop, a black school bag, and an Apple watch, totaling several thousands of Ghana cedis in value.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackom, detailed that the incident occurred on December 29, 2023, when an unknown individual gained access to Kumah’s residence at Achimota-Mile 7 in Accra and made away with the valuables. The burglary was captured on CCTV, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of Falilu in the Ashanti Region.
Upon his arrest, Falilu admitted to possessing Kumah’s iPhone 15 Pro Max and led police to Adum PZ in Kumasi, where Sanogo was apprehended. Sanogo, during interrogation, confessed to selling the stolen phone to Falilu and implicated Dunga, a fellow mobile phone dealer, as his accomplice.
The police are currently conducting a manhunt for Dunga, while Sanogo and Falilu have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
