The Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has announced an indefinite nationwide strike beginning Wednesday, December 3, 2025, citing the government’s persistent delay in paying the One-Time Research Allowance agreed on July 10, 2024.
According to the association’s National Executive Council (NEC), the allowance—intended to support research and publication activities required for staff promotion—is an agreed entitlement, not a privilege. TUSAAG says the government’s continued failure to release the funds constitutes a “blatant breach of agreement” and reflects disregard for the vital role administrators play in Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
The association also revealed that several months of engagements with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the Ministry of Education have produced no results. Repeated letters and requests for meetings with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu were reportedly ignored or deferred.
With the strike in effect, administrative operations across all 10 Technical Universities will be shut down. Key services finance, admissions, examinations, human resources, registry, and general administration are expected to face significant disruptions until the government pays the outstanding allowance.
TUSAAG, however, says it remains open to immediate and sincere negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting resolution.
