Together, We Will Win, and Ghana Will Rise Again” – Alan Kyerematen Rallies Behind Arrested Democracy Hub Protestors

Independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen has voiced his support for the over 40 Democracy Hub protestors who were arrested on October 22, 2024, during a demonstration. The protest, originally dubbed #ReoccupyJulorbiHouse, shifted focus to an anti-galamsey (illegal mining) demonstration before protestors were detained for alleged inappropriate behavior.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kyerematen praised the arrested protestors as the “heroes of our time” for standing up against the challenges faced by many young Ghanaians, including unemployment and a lack of future opportunities.

“I would like you to know, particularly, those who have been arrested, that you are the heroes of our time. You have endured the pain of living through the hardest of times in our country, with no jobs and no hope for the future. Do not be dismayed, there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Kyerematen wrote.

He assured the protestors that he would stand “shoulder to shoulder” with them in their fight, not only against illegal mining but also for the creation of a peaceful, prosperous, and just Ghana.

“I stand solidly behind you, and will fight with you shoulder to shoulder, not only to deal aggressively with the challenge of galamsey but, equally importantly, to fight to create a peaceful, prosperous, just, and united Ghana, that will create a better and brighter future for all Ghanaians, particularly you the young people.”
