TikTok has confirmed that it will shut down its music streaming platform, TikTok Music, worldwide on November 28, 2024. The service, currently available in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico, will cease operations in these countries.
The decision comes as TikTok aims to refocus its resources on its ‘Add to Music App’ feature, which allows users to save music tracks discovered on TikTok to playlists on third-party music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon. According to TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, Ole Obermann, this feature has already enabled millions of track saves, highlighting its success.
TikTok launched its music platform last year in Indonesia and Brazil, followed by expansions into Australia, Singapore, and Mexico. However, the company will now focus on leveraging its influence to drive music consumption on external platforms.
TikTok’s ‘Add to Music App’ has grown rapidly, and TikTok users in over 180 countries currently benefit from the feature. TikTok is also in discussions with other music streaming platforms for potential partnerships to enhance its role in the music industry.
