Three people lost their lives in a tragic accident on the Techiman-Wenchi highway in the Bono Region on Thursday morning. The crash occurred at Nkonsia, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality.
A KIA Rhino truck, registered AS 7102-13 and loaded with cashew nuts, collided with a Daewoo Matiz taxi, registered GN 356-19, which was traveling from Wenchi towards Techiman.
According to the Wenchi Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Divisional Officer 2 (DOII) Eric Boateng, the accident was caused by brake failure on the KIA Rhino, causing the truck to veer off its lane and crash into the taxi.
Two male passengers in the taxi died instantly, while a female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital. The mate of the KIA Rhino sustained a minor forehead injury and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital morgue for autopsy. Authorities are investigating the incident further to determine any additional factors that may have contributed to the crash.
