Three Killed, 30 Injured in Mampong Abuontem Crash

Three people have been confirmed dead and 30 others injured after a devastating head-on collision at Mampong Abuontem in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

According to emergency officials, 26 of the injured victims were treated and discharged, while four remain in critical condition at the Mampong Government Hospital.

The accident occurred when a Toyota Coaster minibus (GV 1720-20) from Ejura Agric College collided with an Opel Astra (AS 3838 W). Eyewitnesses said the Opel Astra lost control on a curve and veered into the lane of the oncoming minibus, resulting in the violent crash. The Opel Astra was completely mangled, while the minibus sustained severe front-end damage.

Two additional passengers in the Opel Astra died after being rescued, and the driver was extricated dead at the scene and handed over to the police.

The Mampong Fire Station, led by LFM Emmanuel Kwami, responded to the distress call at 17:38 hours. By the time the rescue team arrived, all injured persons — 26 students, three staff members and the bus driver — had been transported to the hospital. Fire personnel subsequently cleared the debris to restore the free flow of traffic.

Authorities are urging motorists to avoid overtaking on curves, maintain their vehicles properly, and strictly adhere to road safety protocols to prevent such fatal incidents.
