Security operatives have arrested three suspects in the Volta Region for allegedly impersonating high-profile state officials, including Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to defraud unsuspecting members of the public online.

The suspects—Gideon Awudi (25), Edem Soku (33), and Judith Soku (31)—were picked up by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in the Dabala and Sogakope areas following sustained, intelligence-led operations.

Police say the trio used fake social media accounts bearing the names and images of the Speaker, the IGP, and other prominent personalities to carry out mobile money fraud, credit card scams, airtime fraud, and fake online sales.

Investigations indicate that the syndicate operated across multiple platforms, targeting victims nationwide. The arrests followed coordinated sweeps in Sogakope, Dzodzent, and Penyi.

All three suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations as authorities work to dismantle the wider network and recover proceeds from the alleged crimes.
