Thomas Partey Shown Red Card Barely 48hrs After AFCON Exit
He started Thursday morning in Cameroon, landed in London by 12:00pm and was named on the bench for Arsenal’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg game against the Reds.
The Gunners had held Jurgen Klopp’s side to a goalless draw at Anfield but couldn’t repeat their heroics as a double from Diogo Jota condemned them to a 2-0 defeat.
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta defended his decision to involve Partey in the game despite the midfielder’s inactivity in the last 48 hours.

Kurt Zouma’s Brother Suspended By Club For Taping ‘Cat Abuse Video’
Kurt Zouma’s younger brother, 23-year-old Yoan, has been suspended by his club, Dagenham and Redbridge over filming his brother’s cat maltreatment footage that has since received massive outrage.
It has emerged that Yoan took delight in filming his elder brother and West Hamstar Kurt punching and kicking one of his pet cats.
In a statement, the club said; “Dagenham & Redbridge FC would again like to reiterate that it condemns any form of cruelty towards animals and fully understands the reaction of many of its supporters.
“The Club has therefore decided that until the RSPCA has completed its investigations, Yoan will not play for Dagenham & Redbridge in any competitive match.”
They added that “any further action deemed necessary to be taken will be made at the conclusion of the RSPCA investigation”.
Meanwhile his brother, Kurt has been fined £250,000 by his club West Ham and dropped by his kit supplier Adidas, and now Yoan has been suspended by his own team.”
A statement on the club website read: “Yoan was this week contacted by the RSPCA to assist in their investigation and is fully cooperating with them.
“However, Dagenham & Redbridge FC would again like to reiterate that it condemns any form of cruelty towards animals and fully understands the reaction of many of its supporters.
“The Club has therefore decided that until the RSPCA has completed its investigations, Yoan will not play for Dagenham & Redbridge in any competitive match.
“Any further action deemed necessary to be taken will be made at the conclusion of the RSPCA investigation.”
There have been calls from supporters and animal activists for the elder Zouma brother to be prosecuted for the incident, with thousands signing a petition and some calling for him to lose his job.

Jackie Chan Carries Olympic Torch Atop Great Wall
Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan and Chinese Olympic medallists took turns carrying the flame along a route shortened to three days because of COVID-19.
The relay for the torch that will open the Feb. 4-20 Winter Games is much more modest than the globe-spanning relay for Beijing’s 2008 Summer Games, a tour that was disrupted by protests.
Table tennis Olympic gold medallists Ma Long and Wu Jingyu, a two-time gold medallist in taekwondo, were among those carrying the red-and-silver spiral torch along the Badaling section of the Great Wall. The morning temperature was a bracing -11 Celsius (12 Fahrenheit).
Chan, 67, an action and comedy film star known for his support of the Beijing government, was identified in the official press release by his Chinese name Chen Gangsheng.
“I woke up at 4 a.m. This is my fourth Olympics. I’m very happy. I’m also cold!”, Chan told reporters after his run along the wall.
Badaling, the section of the wall most often visited by tourists, is 70 km (45 miles) northwest of central Beijing in the Yanqing district, near the Olympics sliding and Alpine skiing venues. It was built around 1500 A.D. during the Ming dynasty.
Later on Thursday, the torch will be taken to Zhangjiakou in neighbouring Hebei province, where most Olympic snow events will take place. The relay will end with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at Friday’s opening ceremony.
Because of Covid-19, the games are taking place inside a “closed loop” keeping competitors and other Olympics personnel away from the public, and will be attended only by small, selected audiences.

Thomas Partey Pens Down Apology To Arsenal And Ghanaians
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has apologised for his red card that will see him missing this weekend’s clash against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
The Ghanaian, who darted back from the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday to make the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg for the Gunners, was giving his marching orders following two yellow cards in the final three minutes of the match.
Partey only landed back in London earlier in the afternoon following Ghana’s early exit at AFCON but he was determined to help his side reach Wembley, where Chelsea awaited the winners of last night’s tie.
After initially starting the match on the bench, Partey entered the fray in the second half but his commitment to the cause backfired when a late lunge on Fabinho saw him dismissed.
The powerhouse midfielder has since taken to Instagram to apologise to Arsenal supporters, explaining the thinking behind his unexpected cameo at the Emirates Stadium.
He wrote: “Am responsible for anything that happened and will take all the critiques, I should get more intelligent not to get in a challenge already booked but this is my personality, I like to fight for every ball…’
