Tension Mounts at Anweaso Over Disappearance of 25-Year-Old Woman

Tension is rising in the Muslim community of Anweaso, located in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, following the mysterious disappearance of a 25-year-old woman, Danjuma Laliatu. Laliatu reportedly went missing after an altercation with a man named Kwadwo Ahenfie over a farm boundary dispute on October 7, 2024.

According to her family, Laliatu returned home from her farm on the day of the incident with multiple injuries, explaining that she had been attacked by Kwadwo. She described how she fought back and managed to escape but lost some personal items, including her wrist beads. Laliatu told her family she intended to return to the farm to retrieve the items she left behind. Unfortunately, she never returned.

Kwadwo Ahenfie was arrested by the Akwatia Police the following day, admitting to the fight with Laliatu, but he was released soon after. This development has angered the community, particularly after Ahenfie’s family held a celebratory party, dressing in white to symbolize his innocence.

Laliatu’s family expressed their frustration with the police’s handling of the case, calling for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene. The missing woman’s mother, Adiza Danjuma, also appealed to the District Chief Executive, the IGP, and the government to ensure justice is served.

Angry Muslim youth in Anweaso are demanding a thorough investigation and have threatened to take matters into their own hands if there is no swift action. The community fears the situation could escalate if justice is not delivered soon.
