A tense situation unfolded at Ablekuma Fanmilk on Wednesday night after an Okada rider from Omanjor reportedly knocked down a policewoman identified as Rosemary, who is said to be a lactating mother.
The incident occurred when the rider allegedly hit the officer with his motorbike, leaving her unconscious. Both individuals were quickly taken to Mab Hospital at Ablekuma Fanmilk for emergency treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, friends of the injured rider later moved him to another medical facility. In reaction, some residents of Fanmilk seized the motorbike involved in the crash, which reportedly led to a confrontation.
Soon after, a group of Okada riders from Omanjor invaded the area to retrieve the seized bike, sparking heated exchanges and confusion between them and the residents.
The motorbike, bearing registration number M-24-GW 1828, was said to have been operating without functional lights for nearly a week. Residents lament that the same stretch of road has become notorious for frequent motorcycle accidents.
They are appealing to the Ga Central Municipal Assembly to expedite the construction of the Fanmilk–Sowutuom Road, which they believe has become an accident-prone zone due to its poor condition.
