Supreme Court Admits Democracy Hub as Amicus in Wesley Girls Religious Rights Case

The Supreme Court has granted Democracy Hub permission to join the legal challenge against Wesley Girls’ Senior High School as amicus curiae. The decision allows the civil society group, represented by Oliver Barker-Vormawor, to provide legal insight to aid the Court’s consideration of the case.

Democracy Hub’s involvement centres on allegations that the school restricts Muslim students from practising their faith and compels participation in Methodist religious activities. These claims were filed by private legal practitioner Shafic Osman, who accuses the school of systemic religious discrimination in violation of the 1992 Constitution.

The Court ruled that Democracy Hub can submit its arguments only after all parties in the case have completed filing their documents. This ensures that the group’s input will supplement, not interfere with, the primary submissions.

The case remains one of national interest as it touches on religious rights, school policy, and constitutional protections.
