The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, has assured the public that adequate election materials and equipment have been distributed nationwide, ruling out any shortages for the December 7 elections. Speaking during her final media briefing ahead of the polls, Mrs. Mensa stated, “We don’t anticipate any shortage in any part of the country.”
The December 7 elections will see the participation of 18,774,159 registered voters, representing 55% of Ghana’s total population.
Highlighting the success of the special voting exercise, Mrs. Mensa noted an impressive voter turnout, with the lowest recorded turnout at 83%.
On media and observer participation, the EC has issued nearly 10,000 accreditations to journalists and over 20,000 to local and international election observers. To facilitate accurate coverage and monitoring, observers have been provided with maps for locating polling centres.
Mrs. Mensa urged journalists to report the elections accurately and truthfully, stating, “Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully.”
