Six killed in tricycle and timber truck collision at Asikuma

Six people have lost their lives following a fatal road accident involving a tricycle, popularly known as aboboyaa, and a timber truck at Asikuma in the Western North Region.

The incident occurred in a community located between the Bia West and Bia East districts. Reports indicate that eight people were travelling on the tricycle from Asuopiri in the Bia West District to Adabokrom in the Bia East District to engage in farming activities.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident happened on a sloping section of the road near Asikuma when a timber truck travelling from Adabokrom reportedly lost control and crashed into the tricycle.

Six of the passengers died on the spot, while one other person sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Assamu Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the rider of the tricycle managed to jump off moments before the collision and escaped. His current whereabouts remain unknown, prompting some youth in the community to begin a search to locate him and confirm his condition.

The driver of the timber truck has since reported himself to the Dabeso District Police Command. Police officers have visited the scene, transported the bodies of the deceased to the morgue, and commenced investigations into the cause of the accident.
