Seven members of a family have died in a tragic fire at Akyempim in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region. The heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Dunkwa-On-Offin Fire Station received a distress call around 1:04 a.m. and arrived at the scene by 1:20 a.m. Firefighters found one of the four bedrooms in the house completely engulfed in flames and locked from the outside.
Although the fire crew managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other rooms, all seven occupants trapped inside perished. The victims included two adults and five children aged between one and fifteen years.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the husband of one of the deceased women allegedly set the room ablaze and locked it before fleeing. He was later discovered dead in a nearby bush, suggesting he had taken his own life.
The charred remains of the victims have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service as investigations continue into the tragic incident.
