Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has expressed gratitude to supporters for their solidarity following sanctions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) but has urged that fundraisers organised in his name be redirected to more pressing humanitarian needs.

In a message to the public, Thiaw thanked Senegalese fans for their support after CAF handed down fines and suspensions stemming from incidents during the AFCON 2025 final.

“People of Senegal, my family, your solidarity since the announcement of the sanctions has touched me deeply. Thank you for the love you show me every day,” he said.

However, the coach appealed for restraint, asking supporters not to organise fundraisers on his behalf. He encouraged that any such donations be channelled toward causes that directly support people in need.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Senegal was fined a total of $615,000. This includes $300,000 for supporters’ misconduct, another $300,000 for misconduct by players and officials, and $15,000 for five yellow cards received during the match.

Pape Thiaw was also suspended for five official CAF matches and fined $100,000 for behaviour considered to have brought the game into disrepute. In addition, Senegal players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each handed two-match suspensions for unsporting conduct towards the referee.
