Real Madrid secured their 36th La Liga title after Barcelona’s hopes were dashed by a 4-2 defeat against Girona on Saturday. Carlo Ancelotti’s side had moved 13 points clear at the top of the table with a 3-0 victory over Cadiz, courtesy of goals from Brahmin Diaz, Jude Bellingham, and Joselu.

With four games remaining, Real Madrid climbed to 87 points, extending their lead to 14 points over second-placed Barcelona and 16 points over Girona in third place. Ancelotti rested key players ahead of the Champions League semi-final, demonstrating confidence in his squad depth.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made a remarkable return to the starting lineup after an ACL tear sidelined him for most of the season. Real Madrid almost fell behind in the second half, but Courtois’ brilliant reflex save denied Girona a goal, sparking a counter-attack that led to Diaz’s opener.

Diaz then assisted Bellingham for the second goal before Joselu sealed the victory with a tap-in. Real Madrid fans celebrated the title, although the players couldn’t celebrate on the pitch due to restrictions.

Barcelona, needing a win to keep their title hopes alive, started well against Girona, taking an early lead through Andreas Christensen. However, Girona fought back, scoring three goals in ten minutes to seal the victory and hand the title to Real Madrid.

The defeat ended Barcelona’s hopes of winning La Liga and confirmed Girona’s place in the Champions League for the first time in their history. Real Madrid could still complete a La Liga and Champions League double this season, adding to their illustrious history in Spanish football.
