Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Sworn in as Ghana’s First Female Vice President

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has made history as Ghana’s first female Vice President, officially assuming office on January 7, 2025.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Independence Square in Accra, with Chief Justice Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo administering the oath of office. The event was attended by dignitaries, political leaders, and a large gathering of citizens who celebrated this milestone in Ghana’s political history.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang served as the running mate to President John Dramani Mahama, who won the 2024 general elections by defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This victory secured Mahama his second term as President.
