President Akufo-Addo Embarks on Diplomatic Mission to Munich and Addis Abab

Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has departed the country to attend the Munich Security Conference in Germany, followed by the 37th African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.0⁰

The Munich Security Conference serves as a key platform for global discussions on security policy, with the 2024 edition on reinforcing the rules-based international order and countering revisionist tendencies. The conference, commemorating its 60th anniversary, will feature debates, side events, and discussions on critical security issues.

Following his engagements in Munich, President Akufo-Addo will join other African leaders at the AU Summit, scheduled for 17th to 18th February 2024. The summit theme, “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century,” underscores the importance of resilient education systems for inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.

During his time in Addis Ababa, President Akufo-Addo will host a breakfast meeting for member states focusing on education and AU financial institutions. He will also provide updates on Ghana’s role as the host of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Accompanying the President are the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, MP, and officials from the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on Sunday, 18th February 2024. During his absence, Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will act in his stead, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
