
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, has deployed reinforcement teams and armored vehicles to Nalerigu and surrounding communities in the North East Region following violent disturbances that included the burning of two houses and threats of further attacks on residents.
The security deployment aims to restore calm, safeguard lives and property, and strengthen police presence to prevent escalation.
According to the IGP, the reinforcements will also ensure the effective enforcement of the government-imposed curfew in Nalerigu and its environs, designed to contain the unrest and protect residents.
The teams will work with the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security patrols along major highways, ensuring the safety of commuters and commercial drivers.
Police confirmed that investigations into the arson attacks are ongoing, and all individuals involved will be arrested and prosecuted. Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with security personnel during this period.
