The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged attack on a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School during this year’s district inter-schools athletics competition.
The incident reportedly occurred in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19, when tensions between students of Obrachire SHTS and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) escalated into a physical confrontation.
Eyewitnesses said what began as rivalry during the sporting event quickly degenerated into clashes, culminating in the assault of the Obrachire SHTS student.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 23, the Police confirmed that formal investigations are underway and assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency.
According to the statement, officers are working to identify all individuals involved and to establish the sequence of events that led to the violence.
The Service condemned the actions of those involved, stressing that violence at school events undermines the spirit of sportsmanship and poses a threat to public safety.
