
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence in Ofankor, Ga East. The incident triggered widespread public outrage after the disturbing footage circulated online.
In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo on Tuesday, November 18, police identified the suspect as John Odartey Lamptey. He was arrested on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family home following intensified public calls for swift action.
According to the CID, two of Lamptey’s siblings Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey were also apprehended for allegedly attempting to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the viral video. The tenant was rescued during the operation to ensure her safety.
Police say efforts are underway to locate and protect the victim, who reportedly fled the house before officers arrived.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law,” the statement added.
The viral video has sparked strong reactions online, with many Ghanaians demanding justice and improved protection for victims of domestic abuse.
