Police Arrest Man in Viral Video Giving Cigarette to a Child

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man identified in a viral video administering a substance believed to be a cigarette to a child, an incident that has sparked widespread public outrage. The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

According to the release, the suspect, Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was apprehended through an intelligence-led operation. During interrogation, he admitted to the offence and revealed that the incident occurred approximately five years ago.

Police noted that the suspect is currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.

The service emphasized its unwavering commitment to safeguarding children and cautioned the public against acts that expose minors to harm. Authorities warned that anyone found culpable of such behaviour will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
