The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Nana Anderson, in connection with a widespread vehicle rental fraud and car theft syndicate that has affected multiple regions across Ghana.
Also known by several aliases—including Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Willson Kojo Bismark—Anderson was apprehended on April 5 at a hideout in Atasemanso, a suburb of Kumasi, following weeks of surveillance and investigations.
According to a police statement released on Friday, April 11, the suspect allegedly rented a Hyundai Elantra (registration number GT 114-25) using forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards bearing different names but with his photograph. He reportedly failed to return the vehicle and tampered with its tracking system shortly after obtaining it from Community 25 in Accra on March 25.
Further investigations linked Anderson to a string of similar fraudulent activities involving several vehicles, including a Kia Forte, a Honda Civic, and another Kia vehicle, stolen between January and March 2025 from Haatso, Amasaman, and Spintex respectively. He is believed to have sold each vehicle for GH₵4,000.
Upon interrogation, Anderson admitted to the crimes and led the police to a residence in Millennium City, believed to be the hideout of his accomplice, Gideon Baah, alias Nan. However, Baah was not located and is currently on the run.
The suspect has been arraigned before court as investigations continue. Police have intensified efforts to apprehend Baah and any other members of the syndicate.
The Police Command is urging car rental companies and individuals to remain alert and report suspicious clients or fraudulent documentation to the nearest police station.
