
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 12 suspects in two separate highway robbery operations across the Northern and Ahafo regions, as investigations continue into a series of violent attacks on major roads.
Seven suspects were arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred on July 21, 2025, along the Tamale–Buipe highway, during which a member of the Council of State was among the victims. The suspects are Rashida Yussif, Aaron Abaana, Wilson Abasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, Aminu Zibrilla, Innusa Sumaila, and Haruna Safianu. They were arrested on January 11, 2026.
Briefing the media at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 29, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the victim was attacked by six armed men who made away with mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, laptops, and other personal belongings.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, police arrested five additional suspects linked to a robbery at Nkasei in the Ahafo Region. The suspects, identified as Muta Kofi, Mahamadu Sajoe, also known as Salifu, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman, and Bukari Sule, alias Taylor, were arrested on January 16, 2026.
According to COP Donkor, the suspects, together with accomplices, blocked the Goaso–Tepa road on December 2, 2025, and robbed road users while armed with weapons.
She assured the public that investigations are ongoing and urged citizens to remain vigilant, prioritise their personal safety, and avoid sharing sensitive information with strangers as police intensify efforts to curb highway robberies nationwide.
