Parliamentary Committee Established to Consider Pension Scheme for MPs

In light of concerns regarding the welfare of former Members of Parliament (MPs), the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, has created an eight-member ad hoc committee to investigate the feasibility of a pension scheme for MPs.

The committee’s formation follows suggestions from both the Minority and Majority Chief Whips during a tribute to the late MP for Talensi, John Akologu Tia.

Presiding over the parliamentary proceedings on Friday, Andrew Asiamah Amoako set a two-week deadline for the committee to present their recommendations to the house.

Addressing the members, he emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “Honourable members, I believe this is very important for all of us. With the committee that has been formed, we can be confident that they will provide a beneficial outcome for us.”

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the committee members, adding, “We thank the members and hope that they will work expeditiously for us.”
