Ghanaian high jumper Rose Yeboah ended her historic journey at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a commendable performance but did not advance to the women’s high jump finals on Friday, August 2.
Competing in her first Olympic Games, Yeboah cleared heights of 1.83 and 1.88 meters on her third attempts. Despite her strong efforts, she could not clear the 1.92-meter mark on her third attempt, missing a spot in the final.
Although Yeboah did not qualify for the finals and will not be among the top 12 performers, her debut at the Olympics is a significant milestone. At just 22 years old, she has made history as the first Ghanaian woman to compete in the Olympic high jump event.
Rose Yeboah’s Olympic journey ended earlier than hoped, but her groundbreaking participation in Paris 2024 sets the stage for future successes and inspires many young athletes in Ghana.
Alongside Yeboah, Poland’s Zodzik Maria and Greece’s Dosi Panagiota were also eliminated at this stage.
This outcome follows another setback for Ghana, as Harry Stacey placed seventh in the men’s 100m freestyle event earlier this week, marking the second Ghanaian athlete to be knocked out of their event at the Olympics.
