PAC Goes After 18 Teachers for Illegally Withdrawing GH¢188K with Fake Certificates

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has ordered the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate 18 teachers in the Amansie Central District for unlawfully promoting themselves and subsequently withdrawing GH¢188,000 using fake certificates.

According to a report from the Amansie Central Education Directorate, these teachers upgraded their positions and salaries without submitting the required documentation, leading to a significant financial loss for the state.

Vincent Ben Ameyaw, the Amansie Central District Education Director, stated that GH¢34,731.53 has been recovered so far, leaving a balance of GH¢152,966.54.

He emphasized that the teachers had bypassed the official procedures for promotion, engaging in what he described as a “backdoor affair.”

The GES is expected to take further action to recover the remaining funds and ensure accountability.
