
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has paid a historic visit to the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service, reaffirming the support of traditional authority for law enforcement in the country.
The visit took place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and brought together the revered monarch, senior police officials and other traditional leaders. It has been described as a landmark moment in the evolving relationship between traditional leadership and the Ghana Police Service.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board and senior officers, received the Asantehene and briefed him on ongoing initiatives aimed at improving public safety and strengthening crime prevention nationwide.
In his address, the IGP expressed appreciation for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s consistent support for the Police Service over the years.
“Your support for the Ghana Police Service has been both fatherly and exemplary. You have hosted several IGPs and police leadership, offering counselling, guidance and encouragement, with your doors always open to us,” he stated.
The visit highlights efforts to deepen cooperation between traditional authorities and state security institutions, promoting a coordinated and community-centred approach to law enforcement in Ghana.
