Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has described Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar as a crucial encounter, referring to it as a “small final” as the team aims to solidify its position at the top of Group I.
The match, scheduled for Monday, March 24, at 19:00 GMT in Morocco, will see Ghana face off against Madagascar, the two highest-ranked teams in the group. Ghana currently leads the standings with 12 points from five games and a goal difference of +7, while Madagascar follows closely with 10 points and a goal difference of +6.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated match, Otto Addo emphasized the importance of maximum effort from his players.
“We need everyone to be on their toes. We don’t need 98%, we don’t need 99%, we need 100%,” Addo stated. “This game against Madagascar is like a small final, and if we win, we are really on course to qualify, but it’s going to be very tough.”
Ghana heads into the match with confidence after a dominant 5-0 victory over Chad in their previous qualifier on March 21. However, Madagascar also comes into the contest in strong form, having secured a convincing 4-1 win over the Central African Republic.
Acknowledging Madagascar’s recent performances, Addo admitted that his team must be fully prepared for a difficult challenge.
“We observed the Madagascar team, and they have done really well, especially in their last game, so they are in good form, and it’s going to be a tough game,” he added.
With both teams vying for a spot in the 2026 World Cup, the match is expected to be a fiercely contested battle as Ghana looks to extend its lead at the top of the group.
