The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation has announced plans to roll out the government’s One Million Coders programme in 100 constituencies by the first quarter of 2026, with a target of training at least 400,000 young people this year.
The sector minister, Samuel Nartey George, made this known during a visit by Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to the ministry on Thursday, January 22, 2026. He said the initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education to expand access to digital skills training nationwide.
According to the minister, the programme will also be extended to selected tertiary institutions to enable university students to benefit from the training.
He explained that the government is engaging major technology companies to support the initiative through funding and technical expertise, due to financial constraints.
Sam George disclosed that partnership agreements have already been signed with Google, MTN, Huawei, and Telecel, while discussions are ongoing with Microsoft, Oracle, and Amazon.
He noted that the collaborations are aimed at ensuring participants receive internationally certified digital skills training from leading global technology firms, positioning beneficiaries for opportunities in the global digital economy.
