A violent confrontation between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Offinso North Constituency has resulted in the death of one person, believed to be an NDC supporter.
The clash occurred on Monday morning, December 9, 2024, at Akomadan Cocoa Shell. It stemmed from a disagreement over the distribution of fertilizers promised by Fred Gyei Asamoah, the NPP’s newly-elected Member of Parliament for the constituency.
Reports indicate that Gyei Asamoah had pledged to distribute fertilizers to local farmers after the election results were finalized. However, tensions flared when a group of NDC supporters demanded that the fertilizers be handed over, insisting that the resources were meant for all farmers and should not be distributed along partisan lines.
The altercation escalated into violence, resulting in the fatality. Local authorities are currently investigating the incident as tensions remain high in the area.
Efforts are underway to calm the situation, with security forces urging restraint from both sides to prevent further escalation.
