Mfantsipim School has sent Prempeh College back to “sofoline” in a tense quarter-final contest of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), to secure a place in the semi-finals.
The contest was decided by a nail-biting tie-breaker after both schools were neck and neck throughout the competition.
At the end of the first round, Prempeh College led with 30 points, closely followed by Mfantsipim School with 29 points, while Swedru Senior High lagged behind with 13 points.
However, by Round 2, Mfantsipim School took the lead with 36 points, leaving Prempeh College with 34 points and Swedru still at 13 points.
As the contest intensified, Mfantsipim held on to their lead in Round 4, finishing with 50 points, while Prempeh College had 46 points, and Swedru SHS 24 points.
In the final round, both Mfantsipim School and Prempeh College tied at 53 points, forcing the contest into a dramatic tie-breaker.
Mfantsipim School ultimately clinched victory with 56 points, leaving Prempeh College with 53 points and Swedru SHS at 27 points.
Prempeh College, the five-time NSMQ champions, faced disappointment yet again, having been knocked out in the 2023 semi-finals by Opoku Ware School.
Mfantsipim School, known as “Botwe” and Ghana’s oldest secondary school, continues to live up to its reputation for academic excellence and leadership training, as they march confidently towards the NSMQ 2024 semi-finals.
