The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the party following comments he made during a television interview.
In a statement dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken due notice of remarks made by Prof Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.
According to the statement, Prof Frimpong Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and further stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party.
The NPP said the former minister also made additional disparaging remarks, including allegations that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.
The party unequivocally rejected the claims, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated. It maintained that the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of party delegates.
According to the statement, the conduct of the primary was widely acknowledged by all participating candidates and well-meaning members of the party.
The NPP further described the utterances and conduct of Prof Frimpong Boateng as highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity and integrity of the party.
As a result, the party said it had invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the party, in strict accordance with due process.
