The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has issued a stark warning, stating that from February 2024, salaries of employees lacking National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers will be withheld.
This decision follows extensive discussions with pertinent stakeholders, setting deadlines for government workers to obtain their NIA numbers through a specialized registration process.
Deputy Controller and Accountant-General, Wisdom Komlan Messan, released an official statement emphasizing that the NIA commenced nationwide registration for eligible Ghanaians aged 15 and above on September 4, 2023. Notably, this registration includes targeted Public Sector Employees currently on the government’s payroll.
The statement urges employees to promptly utilize the ongoing general registration at the 24 NIA offices, highlighting that special attention will be accorded to government workers during the registration period, which extends until January.
This directive marks the second occasion in two years that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has issued such a notice, emphasizing the importance of obtaining the Ghana Card to ensure uninterrupted salary payments for affected employees.
