NDC Odododiodioo Parliamentary Primary Rescheduled Following Court Dismissal of Injunction Application

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has adjusted the date for its parliamentary primary in the Odododiodioo constituency to January 21, 2024. This decision follows the rejection of an application for an interlocutory injunction filed by disqualified candidate Michael Nii Yarboi Annan.

In November 2023, the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee disqualified Annan from participating in the Odododiodioo Constituency parliamentary election. The committee’s report stated that this decision was based on findings from a special committee established by the Functional Executive Committee.

Citing Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, the party clarified that the special committee, after reviewing the evidence, could not endorse Annan’s eligibility for the parliamentary primaries. The article stipulates that a member must be an active party member at the constituency level for the four years immediately preceding the date of filing nominations.

The initial delay in the primary election resulted from legal challenges initiated by Annan. However, with the court dismissing the application for an interlocutory injunction, the NDC has now set a new date for the primary in the Odododiodioo constituency.

Fifi Fiavi Kwettey, the General Secretary of the NDC, announced on January 19 that the Accra High Court dismissed the injunction application. Consequently, the party is resuming the processes leading up to the Odododiodioo parliamentary election. The primaries are now rescheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2024.
